CIO spend on digital business transformation is set to increase in 2016, according to Gartner. This is linked to the IT research and advisory giant’s prediction that the Internet of Things (IoT) platforms and architectures will be a top trend for 2016.
More recently, Gartner predicted that over US$2.5 million will be spent every minute on IoT hardware in 2016 and that within the next five years we will see an explosion of machine-to-machine connections as one million new devices will come online every hour.
What does this mean for business? It means it’s time to assess how far you are on the road to becoming a digital business. In some cases this may mean adopting new technologies or processes in the areas of your business that may have fallen behind digitisation and in others it may mean completely reimagining your business so that it fits into a digital-first world.
An encouraging finding from a recent survey on digital business by Forrester Research, is that executives are massively optimistic about the ways that digital will change their businesses. According to the survey, 46% of executives see digital having an impact on over half of their sales in the next five years.
In a blog around the survey, Forrester Research analyst Nigel Fenwick says, “This suggests not only huge awareness of the potential for digital to change today’s business but also an expectation that their company will be successful in making the transformation needed to bring this expectation to fruition. And it’s in the biggest companies, where change is the hardest, that executives expect the greatest change.”
This is fantastic news for IT because it isn’t often that the CIO and the CEO are on the same page, but it seems when it comes to digital, everyone is on board. In the process of transforming your business into the best digital business possible, you need a partner with the products and expertise to help you get there.
